Arc4nerd for Commodore Amiga
A downloadable game
ARC4NERD – an arcade classic with Ruhr Valley charm by HooGames2017 has now been released by APC&TCP as both a Big Box edition and a digital download, following the earlier releases of Dr. Dangerous and Phantom Leap.
Please do not confuse this with the Special Edition of ARC4NERD. This Special Edition was limited exclusively to the Amiga Ruhrpott Convention and was only available directly at the event. It has since sold out as well.
To coincide with Amiga Ruhrpott Convention 4, HooGames2017 released the game specifically for the event: a classic arcade game in the style of Arkanoid, packed with Ruhr Valley charm and humor.
Set against a typical industrial Ruhrgebiet backdrop, the player’s task — using either a mouse or joystick — is to clear all tiles installed throughout the level with the help of the Boing Ball and a movable reflector. Obstacles and drone copters make the challenge more difficult, but fortunately random falling 3.5" floppy disks can be collected. These grant the player special abilities, including a gun or a Triple Boing Ball.
Bumpers placed throughout the levels, similar to those found in pinball machines, provide additional opportunities for high scores. Each of the more than 55 levels is dedicated to a supporter of the Amiga Ruhrpott Convention, ensuring long-lasting gameplay fun. And in the end, players even have to face a final boss — something no ARC attendee should miss! ;-)
The physical edition of ARC4NERD comes in a high-quality collector’s box packed with great extras. In addition to the game on floppy disk, it includes a game manual, a sticker sheet featuring artwork from the game, as well as a poster and a postcard of the ARC venue rendered in pixel art style.
Minimum System Requirements:
- Commodore Amiga 500 or higher
- Kickstart 1.3 or higher
- 1 MB RAM
- 3.5" floppy disk drive
About HooGames2017 and Tino Menzner
Gerd Surey (HooGames2017) and Tino Menzner are true children of the Ruhr Valley — both “born on coal,” as the saying goes. Chance brought them together: Tino originally wanted to write an article about Dr. Dangerous, which Gerd had just released for the Amiga, and contacted him for an interview.
They immediately got along well and stayed in close contact. What started as an interview project soon evolved into a collaboration on Phantom Leap. As creative partnerships often lead to new ideas, they eventually decided to develop a dedicated game for the Amiga Ruhrpott Convention — marking the birth of ARC4NERD.
